Michigan Ave, level 6.

Luciano Pedota, from Ravinia’s Festival Reach*Teach*Play Education programs wrote about Black Oak, "This unique 'string' ensemble delivers with great musicianship and sophistication music that is lyrically and rhythmically passionate, blending and contrasting traditional and classical music from a variety of cultures and times, thus, blurring lines between music genres and eras while delivering a unique and captivating sound that thrills the audience."   The seeds of the Black Oak were planted in 2011 when the ensemble first performed for the prestigious Music in the Loft Series.  2014 saw the addition of violinist/violist Aurélien Fort Pederzoli, a founding member of the Spektral Quartet, and the formal naming of the ensemble, Black Oak, a beautiful tree native to their home state of Illinois.

Jack Sullivan from the American Record Guide states, “A final reason to celebrate this album (Experience with soprano Natalie Mann) is the exquisite pianism of Jeffrey Panko, not only in his legato playing in the more lyrical songs but in the way he handles ambiguous moments... A top prize winner of international competitions, NMS faculty member pianist Panko has been featured in performances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center Library, WFMT and WQXR Radio.
